Years after Brexit: Which British Politicians Opposed the United Kingdom’s Membership in the European Economic Community/European Union?

The United Kingdom’s membership in the European Economic Community marked a very important step in British history. However, a considerable part of British politicians were dissatisfied with EEC. With its transformation into the European Union, their dissents with a number of EU policies increased and the UK’s withdrawal from EU membership was seen as the right option. This article aims to specify the British politicians who held opposing views on the EEC/EU within 1974–2016. For the realization of the research was applied qualitative methodology, with special emphasis data analysis method such as content, narrative and discourse. The research results showed that within the period 1974–2016, there were British politicians who considered EEC/EU policies to be the greatest threats to the UK’s national security and saw withdrawal from membership as the only solution. The conclusions of the article contribute to increasing knowledge about Brexit, which in 2026 marks a decade.
