A Procedure for the Analytical Fractionation of Cigarette Smoke Condensates into Hydrocarbons, Acids, Bases and Neutral Fractions / Auftrennung eines Cigarettenrauchkondensates in Kohlenwasserstoffe, phenolische, saure, basische und neutrale Fraktionen
Abstract
A procedure for the analytical fractionation of condensates from cigarette smoke is described. The separation yields a fraction of hydrocarbons, an acidic fraction (acids and phenoles), a basic and a neutral fraction (without hydrocarbons). Methods applied are the distribution between pairs of solvents and the use of a basic ion-exchange column (typ DOWEX). By distribution of the hydrocarbon between nitromethane and cyclohexane a fraction of aromatic hydrocarbons is obtained, which contains almost no aliphatic hydrocarbons. The suggested method for fractionating condensates is reproducible without difficulties.
