Regimuri De Relevanță Și Mutații Transmediale În Romanul Și Filmul Răscoalei: Cazurile Ciulinii Bărăganului, Bijuterii De Familie Și Răscoala

This paper aims to investigate how literature and film attempt to explain the 1907 Peasants’ Revolt and how they instrumentalize it either in support of or in opposition to official discourses. From a methodological perspective, the issue of representing the revolt will be treated comparatively. For this reason, the theoretical pillars of my research are literature’s “regimes of relevance” and transmediality. Both perspectives shed light on the shifts in terms of both literary production and reception and on how the transfer from novel to film goes beyond the act of adaptation, towards a complex process of selection and reinterpretation. The selected corpus includes the novels Răscoala (1932) by Liviu Rebreanu with its adaptation by Mircea Mureșan from 1965, Ciulinii Bărăganului (1928) by Panait Istrati alongside the homonymous movie directed by Louis Daquin in 1957, and finally, Petru Dumitriu’s Bijuterii de familie (1948) together with Marius Teodorescu’s movie adaptation from 1957. Thus, my approach seeks to look at the set of ideologies behind each literary and cinematic work, which may allow for a new perspective on the 1907 Peasants’ Revolt, since historical discourse, alongside literary discourse, has most often avoided reevaluations of the subject in recent years.
