Reconstruction of Pustý Kostol (Deserted Church) Ruin in Veľká Čalomija

Abstract

In 2005 a group of enthusiasts from Veľká Čalomija, a little village in Southern Slovakia decided to initiate preservation of dilapidated ruin of abandoned church from the Middle Ages lying on natural hillock outside of current area covered by buildings. In cooperation with municipal authority and with support of the Slovak Ministry of Culture it was done the first stage of archeological survey under guidance of Václav Hanuliak in 2007. Survey brought new information and started long process of further surveys and projection works that resulted to ruin conservation and following approval of the building in 2014. The article represents a process and determinants having impact on concept of architectonic restoration and final realization. The issue touches not only on the methodology of restoration ruined architecture, but also on the issues of museum exhibits in the open air.
