Impact of Distributed Generators to Distribution Network Protection
Abstract
The main problem with the integration of distributed generators into the existing network is that the distribution systems are planned as passive networks transmitting energy from HV level to MV / LV level. Protective systems are designed to suit MV and LV networks of passive structure, i.e. it does not assume the appearance of a generator in the network. With distributed sources, the network becomes active, thus the conventional protection can become unreliable. This paper will discuss the most important characteristics of distribution networks with distributed generators and efficiency of the existing protection of MV distribution feeders in distribution system of EP BiH.
