The role of the great colonization in the creation and spread of the Greek language and its dialects
Abstract
The creation of the Greek alphabet and its spread influenced the development of most European alphabets. The territorial scope of the Greek language was closely related to Greek colonization, contributing to the creation and mixing of numerous dialects until the formation of a uniform alphabet based on the Ionian dialect from Miletus. The Greek alphabet is the cornerstone of most of the alphabets of European languages.
