Abstract

Abstract for We still need more anti-war songs, thoughts, words and feelings:

This piece is part of a series of anti-war reflections, with similar titles. As wars continue in mul-tiple parts of the world, symbols of peace, including signs of peace are ignored and shot at. When creating this piece, I thought about the image of flowers and feathers to stop guns and cannons. I believe that we still need more anti-war songs, thoughts, words, feelings and images to resonate and continue to be expressed. I’m still wondering how to reach soldiers and those who obey or-ders to shoot. It is possible to stop all the wars, cease fire and not shoot.

Abstract for We need more anti-war songs, thoughts, words and feelings:

“It is possible to imagine and live a life without imperialism” were some of the words I remember from the last talk by Winona LaDuke I attended. Even though I am not sure if these were the exact the same words, the idea stayed with me ever since. It resonated with something I and I’m sure many others had already thought about. Yet there is so much power in putting ideas into words and expressing something with clarity. It is a start at turning them into reality. I hope to see the end of imperialism and wars in reality. I created this piece thinking about anti-war songs that are old and refer to other wars, and yet wars and defenses of colonization and imperialism are still happening. It is also important to see current problems that are keeping peace away from reality. Behind complex wars in different parts of the world are the processes of colonialism and imperialism. It is a rationale of domination, dehumanization, and desire for more land and more resources. We need more people to see and understand that it is possible to live life without wars and imperialism. It is possible to stop, not shoot, not terrorize. We need of more anti-war songs, thoughts, words and feelings. I wonder how can we reach the soldiers and those who obey orders to shoot. I wonder for long is destruction going to be profitable to anyone.
