Operation Nightingale: Digging Band of Brothers

Over the last 13 years, Operation Nightingale has organized over 70 digs with the goal of helping aid the recovery of veterans through archaeological fieldwork, collaboration with peers and archaeologists, and immersion within local communities. In May 2023, a team of archaeologists, support staff, United States (US) and United Kingdom (UK) veterans, and Time Team spent 10 days in Aldbourne, Wiltshire, England excavating and documenting the hut camp used in 1943 by Easy Co, of the 2^nd Battalion, 506^th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101^st Airborne Division. This was the third Band of Brothers dig that Operation Nightingale has organized. This program profile presents an overview of Operation Nightingale’s Band of Brothers’ dig in May 2023, and includes photographs from the dig, an interview with a veteran/participant, and an interview with practitioner archaeologist, Richard Osgood.
