Association Between Paratransit Service Use and Dissatisfaction With Activities and Participation for Persons With Disabilities
Abstract
Paratransit services offer essential transport for persons with limited access to public transport, contributing to activities and participation, well-being, and health. In Switzerland, paratransit service factors (e.g., availability, costs) influence the use of paratransit services. This study explored the association between paratransit service factors and dissatisfaction with activities and participation of persons with disabilities. A cross-sectional study was conducted using a self-administered online questionnaire including 536 participants. Inclusion criteria were being a paratransit services user or their relatives, aged 18 or older. Logistic regression analysis indicated that infrequent use (OR = 2.83, 95% CI [1.18, 7.24]), high costs (OR = 2.12, 95% CI [1.00, 4.80]), and a limited choice of paratransit service providers (OR = 2.22, 95% CI [1.21, 4.13]) were significantly associated with higher dissatisfaction regarding activities and participation. The findings suggest that improving paratransit services can enhance satisfaction with activities and participation of persons with disabilities.
