Étincelles ou les aphorismes français de Mary Karadja

Mary Karadja is mentioned several times in August Strindberg’s correspondence and appears as a mediating figure in some transnational literary networks. Her ability to speak and write several languages as well as her stays in Europe led her to publish her first texts in French, Étincelles. This translingual strategy is decoded over these aphorisms, which well beyond the exercises of style consecrated by this genre, constitute in reality an entry in her theosophical work. The aphorisms allow the author to hide behind « archi-utterances » and to criticize the mores of the society while discreetly referring to religious motives.

Mary Karadja est mentionnée à plusieurs reprises dans la correspondance d’August Strindberg et apparaît comme une figure médiatrice dans certains réseaux littéraires transnationaux. Sa maîtrise de plusieurs langues et ses nombreux séjours en Europe l’ont conduit à publier son premier texte en français, Étincelles. Cette stratégie translingue se décode au fil de ces aphorismes, qui bien au-delà des exercices de style consacrés par ce genre, constituent en réalité une entrée dans son œuvre théosophique. Les aphorismes permettent à l’auteure de s’effacer derrière des « archi-énoncés » et de critiquer les mœurs de la société tout en se référant discrètement à des motifs religieux.
