Patrimonios incómodos: monumentos públicos y sitios de memoria y derechos humanos a 50 años del golpe militar en Chile

La presente propuesta propone abordar, desde la perspectiva del patrimonio conflictivo o incómodo (Smith 2006), la evolución del debate público patrimonial que acontece en Chile desde la impugnación, resignificación y apropiación de monumentos públicos acontecida tras el estallido social de octubre de 2019, a la centralidad que adquiere la discusión patrimonial sobre sitios de memoria en el contexto de la conmemoración de los 50 años del Golpe Militar. A partir de analizar tres experiencias de puesta en valor de la memoria, la “Villa San Luis” ; el ex Centro de Detención “la Venda Sexy” y “Santa Mónica 2338”, Ex Comité Pro Paz (COPACHI), se propone una reflexión sobre cómo los sitios de memoria configuran patrimonios incómodos cuyo significado se expande más allá de su definición hegemónica producto de la participación de diferentes comunidades que amplían los limitados marcos de su puesta en valor institucional instalando el debate sobre la relación entre patrimonio, memoria social y derechos humanos. Argumentamos que la noción de patrimonios incómodos aplicada a los sitios de memoria devela su dinamismo y complejidad, en donde la incomodidad que despiertan es reconfigurada y disputada por su interacción con cambios propios de las dinámicas urbanas, así como por las disputas en torno a sus atributos simbólicos.

Abstract

This proposal aims to address, from the perspective of conflictive or difficult heritage (Smith 2006), the evolution of the public heritage debate that has been taking place in Chile since the challenge, redefinition and appropriation of public monuments that took place after the social outbreak of October 2019, to the centrality that the heritage discussion on memory sites acquires in the context of the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Military Coup. Based on the analysis of three experiences of memory enhancement, “Villa San Luis”; the former Detention Center “la Venda Sexy” and “Santa Monica 2338”, former Pro Peace Committee, a reflection is proposed on how memory sites configure uncomfortable heritages whose meaning expands beyond their hegemonic definition as a result of the participation of different communities that broaden the limited frameworks of their institutional enhancement, installing the debate on the relationship between heritage, social memory and human rights. We argue that the notion of uncomfortable heritages applied to sites of memory reveals their dynamism and complexity, where the discomfort they arouse is reconfigured and contested by their interaction with changes inherent to urban dynamics, as well as by disputes around their symbolic attributes.
