Social Change Review

Social Change Review is an international, peer-reviewed journal dedicated to the study of social transformation across its multiple dimensions. The journal publishes original research with local, national and international relevance, drawing on scholarship from across the social sciences and beyond. Its Editorial Advisory Board and contributing authors represent institutions from Europe and beyond, reflecting the journal’s commitment to international scholarly dialogue.

The journal was founded in 2003 by the Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu, Romania, which remains its publishing institution and owner. Between 2003 and 2009, the journal appeared under the name Revista de Sociologie, covering a wide range of issues related to sociology, social work, and social policy. It was relaunched with a new Editorial Board and a new name in 2010.

Accepted manuscripts are published online first, in a continuous process, and are and are subsequently incorporated into an annual volume at the end of each calendar year. Occasionally, thematic special issues may also be published.

Aims

Social Change Review aims to advance scholarly understanding of the processes, mechanisms, and consequences of social change in contemporary societies. The journal provides a forum for rigorous, theoretically grounded, and empirically informed research that engages with social transformation at local, national, and global international levels.

The journal is particularly interested in research that:

examines structural, cultural, and institutional dimensions of social change;
engages with the relationship between micro-level social dynamics and macro-level transformations;
addresses issues of social inequality, social cohesion, identity, migration, educational processes, social inclusion and the protection of vulnerable groups, health and social policy, political behavior, gender and memory studies, social values, and civic participation in changing societies.
contributes to theoretical and methodological debates in the social sciences;
draws on comparative, cross-national, or longitudinal perspectives.

Scope

The journal welcomes contributions from a wide range of social science disciplines, including but not limited to:

sociology and social theory;
political science and public policy;
social psychology and behavioural sciences;
social work and welfare studies;
cultural studies and the sociology of culture;
demography and population studies;
migration and ethnic studies;
education and the sociology of knowledge.

Interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary submissions are welcome where they engage substantively with questions of social change. Social Change Review encourages quantitative, qualitative, mixed-methods, and theoretical approaches.

Types of manuscripts accepted

The journal considers the following types of submissions:

Research articles — original empirical or theoretical contributions (8,000–10,000 words, including references).
Review articles — systematic or narrative reviews of an established body of literature (up to 10,000 words).
Theoretical essays — conceptual or methodological contributions (8,000–10,000 words).
Short communications — concise reports of preliminary findings or critical commentary (2,000–3,500 words).
Book reviews — critical assessments of recently published academic works (800–1,500 words).

All submissions must be in English. Multiple or parallel submissions will not be considered.
