Manuscripts submission

Manuscripts in English should be submitted exclusively through the online submission system: https://roep.mendelu.cz/
The authors should submit their manuscripts either in MS Word or as PDF file.
For new submissions, the authors should submit two files: the anonymised Main file and separate Title page.
Preferably, the anonymous Main file is submitted as a single document (containing the main text, tables, figures and appendices).
The Title page should include full names of authors, their affiliations including addresses and email addresses, ORCID numbers, and acknowledgment.
RoEP does not charge any submission fees.

Instructions for authors

Length: preferably 10–20 pages (1½ line spacing, excluding references)
Abstract: approximately 150 words (no more than 200 words)
Keywords: 2-7 keywords
JEL codes: up to 6 appropriate JEL codes
References should be cited in the text by name and year in parentheses.
List of references at the end with full details following a consistent recognised style (e.g. APA or Chicago).
Figures should be of high quality and embedded in the text.
Tables should be numbered using Arabic numerals and embedded in the text.
Equations should be numbered (in parentheses) on the right-hand side, near the margin.
Headings should be clearly numbered using the decimal system of headings with no more than three levels.
Pages should be numbered (ideally, bottom of page, in the middle).
Paragraphs should be justified.
Please use as few abbreviations and footnotes as possible.

Standards of Good Scholarship

RoEP aims at the quality standards common to leading peer-reviewed journals in economics. The following guidance applies to all submissions, regardless of methodology.

Contribution to the literature. The introduction should clearly state the paper’s specific contribution to the existing literature. Authors are encouraged to identify the key publications most directly related to their research question and explain, concisely but substantively, how the present study extends, challenges, or complements those works. Noting that a topic is “underexplored” is generally not sufficient; a strong introduction articulates what the paper adds and why that addition is consequential.
Theory section. RoEP welcomes all manuscripts — including empirical and applied policy papers — that include an explicit theory section distinct from the literature review. This section should set out the paper’s core assumptions, the logical structure of the argument, and the causal mechanisms under investigation. Papers that present empirical results without a clearly articulated theoretical framework are less likely to succeed in peer review.
Hypothesis derivation. Hypotheses and empirical predictions should follow transparently from the theory section. Authors are encouraged to show the logical steps connecting their theoretical premises to each testable proposition, making the derivation clear to the reader.
Data and replicability. RoEP prefers submissions in which all data used in the analysis are described in sufficient detail to permit independent replication without consulting the authors. Descriptions such as “standard macroeconomic indicators” or “data from a well-known database” are generally considered insufficient.
Justification of methodological choices. Authors should not only report their theoretical and empirical modelling choices in full, but should also justify them. This applies equally to the specification of theoretical models, the choice of estimator, the selection of control variables, the handling of missing data, and the treatment of outliers. Sensitivity analyses and robustness checks are strongly welcomed wherever alternative modelling choices exist.
Tables and figures. Every table and figure should be accompanied by a note placed directly beneath it. The note should identify the data sources, define all variables and metrics displayed, specify the units of measurement, and — in the case of regression tables — state the estimation method, the sample, and the indicators used for statistical significance. Therefore, tables and figures should be interpretable without reference to the main text.

Originality and publication ethics

Submitted manuscripts must be original work that has not been previously published and is not currently under review at any other journal.
All authors must disclose any potential conflicts of interest at the point of submission.
RoEP adheres to standard publication ethic guidelines following the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
