Instructions for Authors

Authors must prepare manuscripts according to the journal’s manuscript preparation guidelines and template. Submissions that do not follow the required structure and formatting may be returned to authors for correction before peer review. The details guidelines are available here. The S2IS journal encourages authors to prepare expanded, complete, archival-quality versions of ideas and concepts that have been not been presented or published in conference proceedings and in any journal before.

Manuscript Submission

Manuscripts must be submitted through the journal’s online submission system https://www.editorialmanager.com/s2is/default.aspx
Authors must create an account or log in to an existing account to submit a manuscript. All required metadata, including title, author names, affiliations, corresponding author details, abstract, keywords, funding information, conflicts of interest, and ethical declarations, must be entered accurately during submission.

Article Types

The journal considers the following types of submissions:

original research articles;
review articles;
short communications;
technical notes;
application-oriented studies;
special issue papers, where applicable.

Manuscript Structure

Manuscripts should normally include the following sections:

Title;
Author names and affiliations;
Corresponding author details;
Abstract;
Keywords;
Introduction;
Literature review or related work, where appropriate;
Materials and methods / methodology / system design;
Experimental setup or case study, where applicable;
Results;
Discussion;
Conclusion;
Acknowledgements, where applicable;
Funding statement;
Conflict-of-interest statement;
Data availability statement, where applicable;
Ethics approval statement, where applicable;
Author contribution statement, where applicable;
References.

Formatting Requirements

Manuscripts should be prepared using the journal template. Unless otherwise specified in the template:

the manuscript should be prepared in Microsoft Word format;
Times New Roman should be used throughout the manuscript;
the main text should be 10 pt;
the manuscript should follow a two-column format after the title, author details, abstract, and keywords;
section headings should be clearly numbered and formatted consistently;
figures and tables should be cited in the text in numerical order;
references should be complete, accurate, and consistently formatted.

Title Page

The title page should include:

concise and informative manuscript title;
full names of all authors;
institutional affiliations of all authors;
country of each affiliation;
email address of the corresponding author;
ORCID IDs, where available.

Abstract and Keywords

The abstract should clearly summarize the purpose, methods, main results, and conclusions of the study. It should be written as a single paragraph and should normally not exceed 250 words.
Authors should provide 4–6 keywords that accurately reflect the content of the manuscript.

Figures and Tables

Figures and tables should be clear, readable, and numbered consecutively. Each figure and table must have a descriptive caption. Figures should be of sufficient resolution for publication. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission for any reproduced material.

References

References should be complete and accurate. Authors should ensure that all references cited in the text are included in the reference list and that all references in the reference list are cited in the text. Where available, DOI information should be included.

Manuscript History Dates

For transparency, published articles should include the following dates:

received date;
revised date, where applicable;
accepted date;
published date.

Ethical and Publication Declarations

Where applicable, authors must include statements on:

conflicts of interest;
funding;
data availability;
ethics approval;
informed consent;
author contributions;
use of generative AI tools.

Article Processing Charge

Authors are required to pay the Article Processing Charge only after acceptance. Details of the APC are provided in the Article Processing Charges section of the journal website.

Manuscript Template

Manuscript Title

Format: Times New Roman, 16 pt, bold, centred.

The title should be concise, informative, and accurately reflect the content of the manuscript.

Author Names

Format: Times New Roman, 11 pt, centred.

List all authors using full names. Use superscript numbers to link authors to affiliations.

Example:

First Author¹, Second Author², Third Author¹

Affiliations

Format: Times New Roman, 9 pt, centred.

Provide department, institution, city, country, and email address where appropriate.

Example:

¹Department/School, Institution, City, Country

²Department/School, Institution, City, Country

Corresponding Author

Clearly indicate the corresponding author using an asterisk.

Example:

*Corresponding author: name@email.com

Abstract

Format: Times New Roman, 10 pt, single column.

The abstract should be one paragraph and normally not exceed 250 words. It should briefly describe the background, objective, methods, key results, and conclusion.

Keywords

Provide 4–6 keywords separated by semicolons.

Example:

Smart sensing; intelligent systems; sensor networks; machine learning; IoT

Main Text

After the title, author details, abstract, and keywords, the main manuscript should be prepared in two-column format.

Recommended section structure:

Introduction
Related Work / Literature Review

III. Materials and Methods / Proposed Method

Experimental Setup / Case Study
Results and Discussion
Conclusion

Additional sections such as Acknowledgements, Funding, Conflict of Interest, Data Availability, Ethics Approval, Author Contributions, and References should be included where applicable.

Figures

Figures should be numbered consecutively as Figure 1, Figure 2, etc. Each figure must be cited in the text before it appears.

Caption format: Times New Roman, 9 pt.

Example:

Figure 1. Overall architecture of the proposed smart sensing system.

Tables

Tables should be numbered consecutively as Table 1, Table 2, etc. Each table must be cited in the text before it appears.

Caption format: Times New Roman, 9 pt.

Example:

Table 1. Performance comparison of the proposed method with existing methods.

Equations

Equations should be centred and numbered consecutively.

Example:

E = mc² 　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　(1)

References

References should be numbered in the order in which they appear in the text. In-text citations should use square brackets, for example [1], [2], or [3–5].

Example reference format:

[1] A. Author and B. Author, “Title of the article,” Journal Name, vol. xx, no. x, pp. xx–xx, year, doi: xx.xxxx/xxxxx.

Manuscript History

The final published article should include:

Received: DD Month YYYY

Revised: DD Month YYYY

Accepted: DD Month YYYY

Publication Volume and Timeliness

The International Journal on Smart Sensing and Intelligent Systems follows a continuous publication model. Articles are published online once they have completed peer review, have been accepted, and are ready for publication.

The journal aims to maintain a regular and sustainable annual publication volume while ensuring rigorous peer review, editorial quality, and publication integrity. The journal does not prioritize quantity over quality. Any increase in publication volume will be managed carefully in line with the availability of high-quality submissions, qualified reviewers, and editorial capacity.

The current volume is Volume 19 for the year 2026.

To support transparency and indexing requirements, future published articles should include clear manuscript history dates, including:

received date;
revised date, where applicable;
accepted date;
published date.

The journal will continue to monitor publication timelines, peer review efficiency, and annual publication volume to ensure consistency and compliance with indexing standards.
