Aims and scope

The journal was established in 2006 strictly following the Open-Access policy. Its editorial board does its best to protect the journal’s status as a non-profit publication platform free of any APC (Article Processing Charge). It is also for this reason that the journal is published only in electronic form.

The journal focuses on landscape and territorial research in its broadest geographical sense. It addresses the territorial organization of society and the environment, as well as their interactions, from the perspective of different hierarchical levels and functional and developmental dimensions.

The aim of the journal is to provide a common platform for publishing research on environmental issues, the social dimensions of sustainability, economic geography and regional development, cross-border cooperation, and political strategies influencing landscapes. It also covers spatial planning, regional development, and policies at various scales. Interdisciplinary approaches are strongly encouraged.

Across all its content, the journal emphasizes the practical implications of research for public administration, planning, and regional development. Authors are therefore encouraged to discuss the relevance of their methodological approaches and results for these fields. Given the journal’s target audience, manuscripts presenting highly detailed technical procedures are considered only if they provide clear guidance on their application and relevance for planning and policy.

Submission and peer-review process

The journal welcomes papers that fall into one of the following categories:

  • Original papers – standard articles based on theoretical or empirical research, providing a clear discussion of results that extends beyond a single case study.
  • Regional reviews – reviews with a specific thematic and regional focus (typically covering a region consisting of several countries), offering authoritative summaries of the state of the art and outlining future research and practice challenges. Bibliographic reviews not meeting these requirements are rejected from the evaluation.
  • Discussion papers – contributions offering critical and authoritative perspectives on recent issues and methodologies.

The journal also publishes Special Issues and thematic collections of papers. The publication of Special and Thematic Issues is subject to prior approval by the editorial board, based on an evaluation of submitted proposals.

Manuscripts prepared in accordance with the Instructions for Authors should be submitted directly to the Managing Editor (pavel.raska[at]ujep.cz).

All manuscripts undergo an initial evaluation by the editorial board (Editor-in-Chief, Managing Editor, and field editors). Following a positive assessment, manuscripts proceed to a double-blind peer-review process.
