The European Journal of Tourism, Hospitality and Recreation (EJTHR) focuses on interdisciplinary research addressing the management, development, and socio-economic impacts of tourism and hospitality systems. The journal provides a platform for the dissemination of high-quality academic research that addresses contemporary challenges, emerging trends, and theoretical developments within these interconnected domains. EJTHR welcomes submissions from scholars worldwide and fosters international collaboration in tourism and hospitality research.

EJTHR aims to contribute to the advancement of tourism and hospitality studies by publishing rigorous empirical, theoretical, and methodological research that deepens our understanding of tourism systems, hospitality management, destination development, and the broader socio-economic and cultural dimensions of travel and recreation. The journal encourages interdisciplinary perspectives integrating approaches from management, economics, sociology, geography, cultural studies, and related social sciences.

Reflecting the global nature of the tourism and hospitality industries, EJTHR particularly welcomes research with an international, comparative, or cross-regional focus. EJTHR seeks contributions that generate new knowledge relevant to scholars, policymakers, industry professionals, and destination managers, thereby fostering dialogue between academic research and professional practice.

The journal publishes original research articles that, make significant theoretical contributions or methodological innovations, or have practical implications for the development and management of tourism and hospitality systems.

EJTHR is an international, peer-reviewed academic journal published by Centre for Research, Development and Innovation in Tourism (CiTUR).

The journal publishes two issues per year (in August and December) and accepts submissions on a rolling basis.

EJTHR has been published since 2016. From Volume 7 onwards, the journal is hosted on the Reference Global platform.

All published articles are assigned a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) via Crossref, ensuring permanent accessibility and reliable citation.

The journal publishes all content in English and operates an open access publishing model. Articles are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0) license, which allows free access and reuse with appropriate attribution. EJTHR does not charge article processing charges (APCs) or submission fees.

The journal’s editorial team makes editorial decisions independently and based solely on the academic merit, originality, and relevance of submitted manuscripts.

The European Journal of Tourism, Hospitality and Recreation (EJTHR) publishes two issues each year, on a biannual basis. The journal operates under a continuous submission model and accepts manuscripts throughout the year.

Regular issues primarily consist of original research papers that contribute to advancing knowledge in the fields of tourism, hospitality, leisure, and recreation. Submissions are expected to demonstrate clear theoretical grounding, methodological rigor, and relevance to current academic and professional debates.

All manuscripts submitted to regular issues undergo a rigorous double-blind peer review process and must comply with the journal’s editorial policies, ethical standards, and manuscript requirements. Editorial decisions are based on the academic merit, originality, clarity, and contribution of the research.

The regular issues aim to ensure a balanced representation of topics within the journal’s scope, including diverse methodological approaches, geographical contexts, and thematic areas.

Special issues

The European Journal of Tourism, Hospitality and Recreation (EJTHR) welcomes proposals for special issues addressing emerging topics, innovative research directions, or contemporary challenges in the fields of tourism, hospitality, and recreation.

Special issues are coordinated by guest editors who have recognised expertise in the proposed thematic area. Proposals should include a clear description of the theme and its relevance, information about the guest editors (including their affiliations and short biographical notes), a preliminary list of potential contributions, and a proposed timeline.

All manuscripts submitted to special issues are subject to the same editorial standards and double-blind peer review process as regular submissions. Final editorial decisions remain the responsibility of the journal’s editorial team.
