Aims and scope
The aim of the Central European Economic Journal is to present the diversity of economic sciences and to shape the image of contemporary economics as a discipline that is open to interdisciplinarity, current economic phenomena, new methods, new research trends and emerging economic challenges. Therefore, Central European Economic Journal publishes high quality, original theoretical and empirical research papers in the field of economics and finance as well as at the intersection of economics and sociology, demography, political science, law and management.
CEEJ addresses the broad international community, but especially welcomes papers which focus on socio-economic problems relevant to Central and Eastern Europe, comparative studies of CEE and other regions, and research on emerging economies whose findings are relevant beyond a single country. Studies of other countries are considered when they make a clear contribution to the international literature.
CEEJ publishes original research articles and systematic or critical literature reviews that advance the field. Opinion papers appear only in special issues.
The journal accepts papers which fall under (but are not restricted to) the following research areas:
- Macroeconomics, monetary economics and regional development, including resilience to economic and geopolitical shocks
- Microeconomics and industrial organisation: firm and consumer behaviour, market structure and competition
- International trade and economic integration, including trade policy and the EU Single Market
- Public economics and policy: taxation, public finance, EU funds and policy evaluation
- Financial markets and investments: market efficiency, asset pricing, investment funds, bonds, cryptocurrencies and financial forecasting
- Corporate finance, accounting and governance, including ESG performance and financial reporting
- Quantitative methods in economics, including econometrics, efficiency and productivity analysis, and machine learning
- Labour, population and household economics: labour market outcomes, gender, ageing and well-being
- Energy, environmental and climate economics: renewable energy, green growth and carbon pricing
- Agricultural and food economics, rural development and food supply chains
- Innovation, entrepreneurship and the new digital economy, artificial intelligence impact on societies, businesses, labour markets and education
