Aims and scope
ADMINISTORY. Journal for the History of Public Administration is an annual, peer‑reviewed journal on the history of public administration. International in scope, it publishes themed volumes and open articles in English and German, bridging historical, legal, political, and cultural studies. It fosters debate on the history of states and administrations across regions and periods. It welcomes diverse approaches—from biographical studies to discourse analysis—and promotes exchange between national knowledge cultures and epistemic communities.
Each annual volume is organized around a themed dossier to enable focused dialogue. Alongside the dossier, an open section features contributions on current issues in the history of states and administrations, including methodological innovations and research reports.
ADMINISTORY is published once a year by the Institute of Austrian Historical Research (IÖG) and the Swiss Federal Archives (SFA), in cooperation with the Max Planck Institute for Legal History and Legal Theory, Frankfurt.
