Prior to this, he worked on and in Timor-Leste with the DFG-Collaborative Research Centre 700 “Governance in Areas of Limited Statehood” and with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). He studied history and political science at Humboldt University, the University of Potsdam and Chulalongkorn University, and holds a PhD in political science from the Freie University Berlin.
