She is the project leader of a major research project exploring Best Practice in International Student Exchange funded by the Australian Government Office of Learning and Teaching.

Narayan has worked in Australia and overseas, in universities, NGOs and the private sector and researches extensively on intercultural learning and was formerly the Director for the Centre for Multicultural and Community Development at the University of the Sunshine Coast.
