Jean Vanmai’s Chân Đăng The Tonkinese of Caledonia in the colonial era

Tess Do is Lecturer in French Studies in the School of Languages and Linguistics at the University of Melbourne, Australia. Her teaching and research interests lie in the field of Francophone literature and deal with issues related to the colonisation and decolonisation, exile and migration, cultural identity and the relations between the migrants and their homeland. Focusing in particular on Indochina and the areas of food, memory and cultural heritage, her main publications include articles and book chapters on Francophone writers of Vietnamese origin.

Kathryn Lay-Chenchabi is a scholar in Francophone post-colonial studies and a NAATI-accredited French and English translator. She has a particular interest in questions of cultural and linguistic identity and has published in the field of French writers of North African descent. She has taught French language and culture in the French Studies program at the University of Melbourne and translation theory and practice in the Master of Translation and Interpreting program at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology.
