Abstract

Smart materials such as shape memory alloys offer innovative solutions in industry, based on their main characteristic of returning to their initial shape after deformation, in response to a temperature difference. When SMAs are combined with other materials, they give rise to the formation of smart composites. The composites were manufactured from epoxy resin, reinforced with Ti-Ni SMA wires, by studying their mechanical properties. This study presents the stress-strain relationships of a composite incorporating SMA wires. The study highlights, in a first part, the impact of SMA wires on the mechanical behavior of a composite plate, then analyzes the adaptation capacity and reliability of hybrid shape memory composites.
