Cultivating Changemakers for Community Engagement: The Case of the Sullivan Foundation Fellows Program

Open Access

Abstract

This study reports the design, implementation, and outcomes of the Sullivan Fellows Program, a multiyear leadership initiative that integrates high-impact practices (HIPs) and community engagement through the Agency–Relationships–Contribution Impact Framework. Survey data and qualitative reflections from the 2025 cohorts indicate growth in leadership competencies, especially communication, resilience, and collaboration. The Sullivan Fellows Program offers a scalable model for higher education institutions seeking to combine community engagement, leadership development, and purposeful community impact.
