Time Meets Crime: A Search for a Common Theoretical Framework

Abstract

A cognitive approach has not only increased our understanding of the complex issue of time but has also influenced several applied fields. This paper explores whether its influences have been felt in the field of criminality. Richelle (1992) has suggested that cognitive time psychologists have not as yet accepted the challenge to apply temporal theories to the issue of criminality, a view that is supported in this paper. However, it is argued that a rational choice theory with emphases on planning may be the integrating factor that will allow us to accept challenge this.
