Abstract

After outlining of the evolution of comparative psychology of time, this paper presents hypotheses, experimental strategies and recent data relevant to between-species comparisons. The animal-human generalizability issue is briefly discussed, as well as the role of language and the relevance of developmental studies to animal-human comparisons in particular. The paper argues for the development of an integrative theory of timing, taking both comparative and developmental aspects of behavior into account.
