Abstract
[Art and Brain Functions: Neuropsychological Study of the Mystery of the Gioconda]
Recent publications in neuropsychology (see Bruyer’s review in this volume) indicate that the left half of the face (under right hemispheric control) is more expressive than the other hall. Hut experimental psychology shows also that the right half of the face is contributing more to the global expression of the visage. The famous painting of da Vinci’s The Gioconda is in contrast with these two findings. This anomality might partially explain the “mystery” of the painting.
