Abstract

[Neuropsychology and Pathology of Intellectual Behaviour: A Critical Review]

In this review the neuropsychological approach of intellectual behaviour is analysed. Three syndromes the frontal syndrome, the phasic disorders, and the demential disintegration are examined, both historically and critically. As for the frontal lobe syndrome is concerned, a comparison is established between recent data on mnestic disorders and the views held by Soviet authors. In the matter of aphasia it is assumed that a better psycholinguistic description of language disorders is prerequisite to an analysis of the intellectual impairment. As far as the demential syndrome is concerned, the contribution of Piagetian theory to the traditional views of intellectual disintegration is discussed. Finally, some recent trends in the study of the bisected brain are examined.
