Abstract
[Language Development and Mental Retardation: A Review of the Studies that Used the Illinois Test of Psycholinguistic Abilities with Mentally Retarded Children]
The studies that used the ITPA (Illinois Test of Psycholinguistic Abilities) with mentally retarded subjects were reviewed. Although a proper interpretation of the data remains difficult due to some persistent methodological problems with the ITPA. the studies suggest with a remarkable uniformity the possibility of a specific deficit in the automatic-sequencing aspects of the retarded’s psycholinguistic functioning.
