Abstract
[The Relationship Inventory of Barrett-Lennaro: Dutch Revision for Therapeutic Relationships]
An extended form (123 items) of Barrett-Lennard’s RI, was administered to clients and therapists of about 100 therapeutic relationships. Half of them were client-centered oriented, half of them psychoanalytically-oriented. By means of cluster analysis and factor analysis seven dimensions were isolated: empathy (E), positive regard (P), incongruity (I), negative regard (N), unconditionality (U), directivity (D), and transparency (T). On this basis a revised form of the RI was constructed with 5 subscales containing 8 items and 2 subscales containing 4 items (Neg. Reg. and Unc.). The psychometric qualities of the Inventory arc described and discussed: split-half reliabilities, correlations between subscales, norms.
