Abstract

This dataset contains georeferenced transcriptions of four editions of early modern travel manuals published by F. Scoto (1650, two editions from 1675, and 1700). These manuals provide structured descriptions of long-distance routes across Italy and adjacent regions. The dataset is composed of four CSV tables, each representing one edition. Each row corresponds to a single itinerary entry, including original place names, route descriptions, distances, and additional contextual information. Locational entries were geocoded using the GeoNames gazetteer and linked via persistent identifiers. The dataset enables reconstruction and comparison of early modern route networks, analysis of spatial connectivity, and integration with other historical or GIS-based datasets. It is designed for reuse in historical GIS (HGIS), digital humanities, travel history, or network analysis.
