Abstract
Metadata of German archives in Wikidata has improved massively since winter 2024/25. Users added archive QIDs (the unique identifier for Wikidata items), linked new identifiers, geo data and other information, after we were asking in a call for blog posts, reports, ideas and queries for ‘Wikidata, Geo Data and Archives’ since January for the web portal ‘Saxorum’.
We discuss perspectives regarding archival institutions in Saxony as well as in geographically adjacent regions, such as neighboring German states, Poland, and Czechia, and their open metadata. We demonstrate that indexing archives in Wikidata can foster cooperation and networking among memory institutions, for which we provide initial examples.
