Abstract
Background: IFIC’s 9 Pillars of Integrated Care were first published in a paper in May 2020 Realising the true value of integrated care. This paper introduced the pillars as ways of describing the issues with and opportunities for strengthening the enablers of integration.
IFIC’s research team has undertaken a process of refining the pillars based on a review of the literature and integrated care practice over the last 5 years. It has been validating the refined pillars with a delphi panel of experts in integrated care.
The workshop will present the outputs of this work to the attendees and explore how they see the 9 Pillars being applied in policy and practice at different levels, namely international, national and local levels and how they see the 9 Pillars developing in the future.
Audience: The workshop will be open to all but we are particularly interested in inviting contributions from integrated care practitioners and researchers who use integrated care frameworks as part of their implementation, evaluation and research of integrated care at scale.
Approach
The 90 minute session will be structured as follows:
1.The IFIC research team and 2-3 of the delphi panelists will present the output of the delphi process and the revised and validated 9 Pillars - 30 minutes
2.The moderator of the session will invite the audience to divide themselves into three groups:
a.Those with an interest in the implementation of integrated care
b.Those with an interest in policy making to support integrated care
c.Those with an interest in research and evaluation of integrated care
Each group will be assigned a facilitator who will take notes and keep the discussion on track. The groups will be invited to discuss how they see the presented 9 Pillars being applied in their work and what they would need from IFIC in order to do this – 30 minutes
3.Spokespeople from each group will share the top 3 recommendations from each group – 20 minutes
4.The moderator will summarise the outcome of the discussion and next steps for the 9 Pillars – 10 minutes

Outcomes: The outcome of the discussion will be included in the write up of the revised 9 Pillars which will be published in late 2025.
