Abstract
Introduction: IFIC’s Integrated Care Academy has been providing training and development to diverse groups, including researchers, policymakers, health and care practitioners, as well as formal and informal carers in the past few years. There is some research in the areas of the specific skills, knowledge, and competency required for working in the context of care integration. However, we do not know to what extent this knowledge has been incorporated into the design and provision of education and training for health and care practitioners (HCPs) at undergraduate, postgraduate, vocational or continuous professional development at the country/regional or international level. What is more, we do not know how this education and training reflects emerging career paths for the workforce or even if there are defined career paths in the field of integrated care practice. The Integrated Care Academy, together with experts in the field of education for integrated care practice across the IFIC network, has collaborated in mapping existing workforce education and training on integrated care in some countries. The results of this work are going to be presented in this workshop.
Objectives: The objective of this workshop is to reflect on the results of the education and training mapping exercise and co-design recommendations for future development areas.
Audience and Engagement: The session will be open to any participant interested in education and training in the integrated care workforce and will encourage open dialogue and active participation in small group discussions. Many senior associates from the IFIC network will also be invited to contribute their insights and experiences to the discussion.
Workshop Structure (90 min)
- Introduction and background (5 min)
- Results of the integrated care training and education mapping project using one case example (10 min)
- World café approach (45 min)
We will use the dynamic world café approach to engage participants in rotations and stimulate the cross-fertilisation of ideas among participants.
We want to answer the following question:
“What needs to be done to support better career development in integrated care, including education and training?”
- Feedback and discussion (25 min)
- Wrap-up and Closing (5 min)
Conclusion: We invite participants to join us in this collaborative workshop, underlining collective responsibility in advancing the education and training for the future health and care workforce. This workshop is an opportunity to contribute to advancing integrated care education, fostering a collaborative space and multidisciplinary engagement.
