Abstract

Sarcopenia, characterized by progressive skeletal muscle mass and strength decline, poses significant risks, including physical incapacitation, diminished quality of life, and increased mortality, particularly in individuals aged over 50 [1, 2]. With an annual muscle mass reduction rate of 1-2% [8], the economic burden of sarcopenia is anticipated to rise substantially, impacting healthcare systems globally. The economic impact is evident, with estimates indicating over $18 billion in direct costs in the United States alone [9, 10]. Reductions in sarcopenia prevalence offer potential annual savings of approximately one billion dollars [10]. Prevalence rates in Brazil, a low- to middle-income country, are estimated at around 17% in the elderly population [11].

This study, utilizing ""R studios"", and “biblioshiny” conducts a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of 436 records related to nutrition and exercise interventions for sarcopenia, providing insights into the current status and future trends in this field. Furthermore, it illustrates the countries and authors contributing most prolifically to this topic, the most frequently utilized keywords, and the distribution of these publications over the years. These insights enable reflective discussions on the subject, fostering considerations for future trends and offering suggestions for potential studies to be conducted. Pubmed was chosen as a high-quality data source, and inclusion/exclusion criteria were applied to refine the selection to 436 relevant publications. This study aims to guide future research by offering a reference point for understanding the evolving landscape of exercise interventions and nutrition in the context of sarcopenia.
