Abstract
This (60 minute) workshop uses the case study of the Regional Collaborative Community Care programme in the Northern region of NZ. It explores the complex dynamics of co-design, equity and multi-agency and multi-disciplinary input to design of an information system that will need to scale to cater for 40% of the NZ population. These lessons are portable to other jurisdictions and offers an opportunity to explore how to turn theory into practice in your local context.
It is designed for policy makers, implementers, consumers and those who span, engage and facilitate design for multi agency groups, who would like to have input to design thinking and technologists responsible for building systems to support community collaboration.
Workshop Session – structure and timing
An overview of RCCC, it’s scope, remit , backdrop of policy settings and its overall approach (10 minutes – Andrew Terris, Programme Director)
- Insight area 1: whanau led and equity based engagement (5 minutes – Karoria Johns - Equity lead)
- Insight Area 2: Evolving the methodology– how to bring the tributary rivers of input into a sea of knowledge and design. (5 minutes – Dr Cameron Cole - Product Owner)
- Insight Area 3 : The approach to turning design into product (5 minutes - Sarah Tibby - Programme Manager)
The Mahi (work) – Break out and mindshare – 15 minutes.
Break out groups divided into 3 groups to explore each theme/insight area: (audience self-select the group they wish to join. Each relevant presenter will join/observe the relevant group. Each of the 3 tables/groups will have butcher paper and pens and post it notes for delegates to note ideas and input)
1.What does equity mean in your context, what are the barriers and opportunities for co-design. What ideas has the RCCC example provoked for your context?
2.How do you see an optimal co-design process? How can you bring the various parties to the table and ensure they have equal voice? How can you frame the questions in a model that does not have any inherent bias toward any specific party?
3.How can you synthesise the various inputs into a cohesive information system design? How would you ensure adaptability and scale in a (health/social) system that is undergoing change?
Report back – from a nominee from each group - summarising the themes to the whole audience and any group discussion. (10 minutes – 3 minutes per group + contingency 1 minute)
Open the floor to Q&A and discussion – 5 minutes (facilitator – Andrew Terris)
Summary of overall themes and closing – 5 minutes – Dr Cameron Cole.
This is an interactive session where the delegates will be able to hear the overall case study then choose the theme of their choice for a deeper dive and discussion with their colleagues. There is a chance for discussion both within their interest area and for input and discussion with the broader group on the overall topic and case study.
