Abstract
This essay delves into the challenge of fostering reconnection to self, others, and nature (SON) through systems thinking and Theory U by discussing our learning journey during Value Creators (VC), an innovative education concept of the BBA Global Project and Change Management (GPCM) programme at Windesheim Honours College (WHC). The GPCM program emphasises sustainable development and engages students in real-life project work, promoting holistic learning and societal value creation. We describe our experiences with the 4E-Model of change (Explore, Engage, Elaborate, Evaluate) espoused by the VC. The challenge of human disconnection from oneself, others, and their natural environment was explored with a high focus on identifying and exploring potential practices and approaches for decreasing that gap, thus creating greater sustainable mindsets and behaviours. Through literature review, network mapping, and stakeholder engagement, we identified the root causes of disconnection of people on the level of self, others, and the natural environment. Based on this, we developed the “You & Me” approach to facilitate deep-level change. The work described in this essay highlights the importance of interdisciplinary networks, the power of co-creation, and the role of educational innovation in achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Inner Development Goals (IDGs).
