openBIS overview. In the Lab Notebook section, each member of a lab has a folder to organize projects and experiments (1). Laboratory samples, materials and methods can be organised in the Inventory (2, 3), from where they can be linked to experimental descriptions (4). Data can be uploaded via the web interface or directly from measuring instruments (5). Data stored in openBIS can be analysed with the Jupyter notebooks (6) (Kluyver 2016). Image by the authors.
