On behalf of SAME, hosts of the NMEA 2025 annual conference, I want to say welcome and happy reading with a special edition of Current: The Journal of Marine Education, where you can catch up on some of the latest work from educators and scientists around the Gulf. With SAME reaching across the Gulf Coast, a myriad of people come together within this chapter of NMEA to share ideas on how to increase knowledge of our local waters in and out of the classroom. Through my time as an educator along the Gulf Coast, one of the most important things I have learned is that there are few places in the world like the Gulf, both in its environments and its people. SAME reflects the Gulf in many ways, such as its diversity, resiliency, and generosity. You will see this reflected in the work that these educators and scientists share with you, our readers.
In this issue, you will be able to read articles about how marine education is done from Texas to Florida and the resources available to you, including posters, lesson plans, and online programs. As we celebrate 20 years of Ocean Literacy, many of the articles focus on improving ocean literacy around the Gulf through place-based education, professional development, outreach, and classroom activities.
