Abstract
The study discusses the information-seeking behaviours of academic staff in Swamy Vipulananda Institute of Aesthetic Studies. The study used a survey research design, and the population of the study comprises all 52 academic staff of the Swamy Vipulananda Institute of Aesthetic Studies. Accordingly, 44 (84.61%) academic staff responded to this study. Data was analyzed with descriptive statistics such as simple percentages and frequency count. Information seeking behaviour of the academic was analyzed through four ways: purposes for seeking information, information sources used by academic staff, influence of demographic factors on information seeking, and challenges faced by academic staff during the information seeking. The findings revealed that the majority of the academic staff, 40 (90.91%) required information for teaching and research. It was also noted that most of the staff depended on the printed textbooks (90.91%). The study further revealed that demographic factors of gender and age did not influence the information-seeking behavior of the academic staff. Work experience and educational qualifications of the academic staff significantly influenced the information-seeking behavior of the staff. Based on the findings need to improve the level of information literacy skills and the lack of adequate infrastructure facilities were identified as the main challenges when seeking information. Therefore, this study recommends that the Institute management take steps to increase the infrastructure facilities that are currently at a low level in a timely manner, and proposes organizing Information Literacy skills workshops at regular intervals.
