The usage of information literacy skills in the research projects of undergraduates of aesthetic studies

Abstract

Information literacy has been identified as an important skill in the contemporary higher education environment. It is plays a vital role in the academic activities especially in research process of the undergraduates. Appropriate usage of information literacy skills will improve the quality of undergraduates’ research. Therefore this study focused the usage level of information literacy skills in undergraduates research projects at the Swami Vipulananda Institute of Aesthetic Studies, Eastern University, Sri Lanka. The study uses the survey research design and semi structured questions and observation as the data collection instruments. The study considered 75 undergraduates and their research projects in the academic year 2013/2014 as a sample. The information literacy skill was evaluated based on the six components which directly involve to the research report writing process. The study output reveals that the undergraduates need more improvements in use of information literacy skill in their research report writing process.
