මානව ලිංගික ඊර්ෂ්‍යාව මතුකිරීමෙහිලා නූතන තාක්ෂණික මෙවලම්වල බලපෑම පිළීබඳ මනෝවිද්‍යාත්මක අධ්‍යයනයක් - A Psychological Study on the Impact of Modern Technological Tools in Triggering Human Sexual Jealousy

This research aims to analyze, from a psychological perspective, how sexual jealousy, a complex emotion that continuously exists in human relationships takes shape amidst the proliferation of modern technological tools and social media. The research was conducted as a literature review, showing that while sexual jealousy was established through human evolutionary history, technology can be identified as a major factor intensifying it in the modern era. According to the research, it was identified from the literature that men are primarily sensitive to a partner's physical infidelity (Sexual Infidelity), whereas women are more sensitive to emotional infidelity (Emotional Infidelity). This study identifies that messages exchanged and activities such as "liking" on social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp can cause insecurity and suspicion within relationships. Especially, social comparison (Social Comparison), that is, becoming dissatisfied by comparing one's own relationship with the seemingly "perfect" relationships of others causes insecurity in relationships. Furthermore, this study identifies that new concepts are emerging in modern relationships, such as "micro-cheating", which refers to small behaviors that damage trust in a relationship even if they cannot be definitively identified as complete dishonesty (such as secret messaging, maintaining unnecessary contact with an ex-partner, etc.), and cyber jealousy, which is jealousy arising from dishonest behaviors observed or suspected over the internet. In addition, technology also appears to influence the occurrence of morbid jealousy, a specific psychological condition that can develop due to continuous monitoring and suspicion. Since psychological studies on sexual jealousy arising from technological tools in the Sri Lankan context are limited, this highlights the need for further study on this timely issue. Finally, this study emphasizes the need for balanced use of technology and open communication to protect the stability of relationship.
