Endogenous endophthalmitis: A rare presentation of infective endocarditis

Endogenous endophthalmitis is a rare complication of infective endocarditis caused by haematogenous spread of infection from the vegetation.  Awareness of infective endocarditis as a cause of endogenous endophthalmitis, as well as consideration of endogenous endophthalmitis as a possibility when infective endocarditis patients present with ocular symptoms, are very important for early diagnosis and management of these potentially serious conditions. This report illustrates two cases of endogenous endophthalmitis with hypopyon as the initial presentation of infective endocarditis.
