Invasive pulmonary aspergillosis in an immunocompetent adult: A case report

Invasive pulmonary aspergillosis is a severe potentially life-threatening infection, usually affecting immunocompromised patients and caused by many species of Aspergillus. It is usually diagnosed based on a combination of clinical, microbiological and radiological findings. Since it is rarely reported in immunocompetent people, diagnosis can be delayed. We report a case of invasive pulmonary aspergillosis in a male patient who presented with features of community acquired pneumonia. The importance of radiological features and serological tests and timely institution of appropriate treatment, monitoring and assessing clinical response has been emphasised.
