Crowdfunding Intention among Potential Entrepreneurs: The Mediating Role of Perceived Desirability
Abstract
This study examines the factors influencing entrepreneurs’ intentions to use crowdfunding platforms by applying technology acceptance models. Previous studies have largely focused on technological, environmental, and organisational determinants, while individual-level factors have received limited attention. To address this gap, the study incorporates perceived desirability as a motivational factor influencing entrepreneurs’ fundraising intentions. The research model is developed based on the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT), integrating perceived desirability as a dimension of entrepreneurial intention. Using a quantitative approach, data were collected through an online survey of potential entrepreneurs in the Information Technology and Business Process Management industry. A total of 399 valid responses were analysed using Structural Equation Modelling to examine both direct effects and mediating relationships. The findings indicate that effort expectancy and facilitating conditions are fully mediated, while performance expectancy is partially mediated by perceived desirability. These results offer valuable insights for platform operators and contribute to the crowdfunding literature.
