Influence of Behavioural Factors Towards Individual Stock Investment Decisions and Investment Performance in Sri Lanka
Abstract
This study focused on identifying different behavioural biases affecting individual stock investors at the Colombo Stock Exchange during the economic uncertainty and crisis of 2022. Through an online questionnaire, 384 responses were gathered from individual stock investors using stratified sampling. Identifying decision-making works as a mediator in the relationship between behavioural factors and investment performance, Structural Equation Modelling was used to achieve the study’s objectives. As heuristic and market factors had influenced investors' decision-making and investment performance, it was concluded that the behavioural factors hindered the quality of decisions and investment performance of individual investors at the Colombo Stock Exchange.
