Abstract

This study examines the impact of the determinants of users’ attitudes towards credit cards usage with special reference to the Kegalle district which still prioritize for traditional cash transaction methods. The study addresses a significant empirical gap by focusing on credit card users in a semi-rural Sri Lankan context, which remains underexplored in prior literature. Further, this study employs a quantitative approach and a structured questionnaire was utilized a primary data collection tool, facilitating data from 382 sample of credit card users in Kegalle district using convenience sampling technique. The conceptual framework is based on existing theories and literature, guiding the study’s investigation into Perceived Ease of Use, Perceived Usefulness, Users’ Knowledge and Social Influence on Credit Card Usage. And also, four hypotheses were formed mentioning a positive impact from each of the independent variable on the dependent variable in this study. The correlation matrix demonstrates that all the factors are positively related to users’ attitudes and behaviors regarding credit card usage. All the hypotheses can be accepted and suggested that, Perceived Ease of Use has the greatest impact on credit card usage, and other four variables also play a crucial role in developing users' attitudes and behaviors toward the use of credit cards, indicating users’ knowledge, perceived usefulness and social influence have the next higher impacts on credit card usage respectively. In summing up, the findings of this study provide clear evidences for the financial institutions and policymakers in the form of practical implications. It highlights the importance of enhancing user-friendly features and processes, promoting the benefits of credit cards and improving financial literacy programs. And this would make a significant contribution to the growth of academia as well as practice.
