Strong together: social networks of rural women in dry zone agriculture with special reference to the Anuradhapura district

Rural women’s footing within the rural social network structure is vi­tal and inevitable. It creates collective value, social capital and satisfaction. In the South Asian context the extent of social support networks as an element of happiness was highest among Sri Lankan women during 2006 - 2009. This study examines social footing of rural women in Thirappane in the North Central Province of Sri Lanka. It covered seventy five rural women involved in agriculture. The respondents were strong together as they were strongly associated with rural social networks and highly satisfied with their social engagements.
