
Application of Eleveld Models for Propofol and Remifentanil in an Infant Receiving Total Intravenous Anaesthesia: A Case Report
Abstract
Total intravenous anesthesia (TIVA) is less commonly used in paediatric patients compared to adults, largely due to limited familiarity and the availability of pharmacokinetic (PK) models. The Eleveld models for propofol and remifentanil were developed as universal target-controlled infusion (TCI) models to facilitate dose titration and improve patient safety. This report describes the anaesthetic management of a four-month-old infant using TIVA with Eleveld models. Anaesthetic depth was monitored with a processed electroencephalogram (pEEG) monitor. The six-hour procedure was completed without complications, with stable hemodynamics and a successful extubation. These findings suggest that the Eleveld models offer a viable approach for TIVA in paediatric patients.
