An Unusual Complication During Awake Nasotracheal Fiberoptic Intubation in a Patient with Maxillary Carcinoma

Abstract
A 54-year-old male presented with maxillary carcinoma with extension into the ipsilateral nasal cavity, pterygopalatine fossa and masticator space. Preoperative airway evaluation revealed an anticipated difficult airway with an El-Ganzouri Risk Index (EGRI) of 8. This case report highlights the unexpected and uncommon complication encountered during awake fiberoptic intubation due to an accidentally lodged tip of the fiberoptic bronchoscope in the Murphy’s eye of the endotracheal tube.
