ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ දෘශ්‍යාබාධිත සිසුන්ගේ අධ්‍යාපනය සංවර්ධනය කිරීම සඳහා සමාජ වැඩ මැදිහත්කරණය - Social Work Interventions for Enhancing the Education of Visually Impaired Students in Sri Lanka

The main objective of this study is to examine how social work interventions contribute to the development of learning methodologies aimed at improving the educational status of students with visual impairments. Both primary and secondary data were utilized for this research. Primary data were collected mainly through questionnaires and structured interviews. A sample of fourteen students aged 13–16 years from Sandagala Special School in the Kurunegala District of the North Western Province of Sri Lanka was selected. In addition, interviews were conducted with six teachers from the same school. Accordingly, purposive sampling under non-probability sampling techniques was employed.
After data collection, the data were analyzed using both quantitative and qualitative analytical approaches within a mixed-methods framework. Based on the findings derived from the data analysis, a series of recommendations and conclusions were presented. Key recommendations include the need to improve technological devices for students with visual impairments, the establishment of suitable subject-specific support groups within the school to enhance educational assistance, the provision of necessary guidance for their vocational development, and the implementation of awareness programmes on effectively integrating new technologies into learning. Findings from the factor analysis indicated that existing educational methods and technologies require further enhancement. The study also revealed that modern technological approaches can significantly promote self-directed learning among students with visual impairments.
